{"id":541,"date":"2018-03-18T09:02:59","date_gmt":"2018-03-18T09:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bltierney.wordpress.com\/?p=541"},"modified":"2018-04-14T02:42:45","modified_gmt":"2018-04-14T02:42:45","slug":"nyepi-in-bali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/travel.bltierney.com\/index.php\/2018\/03\/18\/nyepi-in-bali\/","title":{"rendered":"Nyepi Holiday, Bali"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We were lucky to be in Bali for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nyepi\">Nyepi<\/a>, aka &#8216;Balinese Day of Silence&#8217;, aka Balinese New Year.<\/p>\n<p>On Nyepi you are supposed to have no lights, no leaving the house, no cars\/motorbikes\/planes, and no internet (both phones and wired connections) for 24 hours (sunrise to sunrise). It was REALLY NICE! The rest of the world should consider this 1 day\/year. You are supposed to not eat\/drink from 6am to 6pm too, but we ignored that rule.<\/p>\n<p>The day before Nyepi is &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ogoh-ogoh\">Ogoh-Ogoh<\/a>&#8221; day. For 2 weeks leading up to Nyepi, every village temple build a demon to parade around the village, some of which are really impressive.<\/p>\n<p>My Ogoh-ogoh photos\/videos are <a href=\"https:\/\/photos.app.goo.gl\/KKwphaZeefFeRyOx1\">here<\/a>. Be sure to check out some of the videos.
